Peter J. Scranton is an associate at Luftman, Heck & Associates, and works with the firm’s criminal and traffic departments.
Mr. Scranton graduated from the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and began his legal career as a prosecutor with the Columbus City Attorney’s Office. He gained experience handling over 30 jury trials and over 500 motion hearings and bench trials. Cases he worked on range from OVI to theft. He also spent three years as the environmental prosecutor for the Columbus City Attorney’s Office working on criminal cases involving city code and zoning, building permits, and animal abuse and neglect.
Mr. Scranton went on to practice criminal law and traffic defense at The Ohio State University’s Student Legal Services. There, he successfully defended Ohio State students in offenses ranging from Columbus OVI charges to underage alcohol offenses . He taught as part of the school’s First Year Success Series and STEP programs on the subjects of criminal rights and responsibilities. As part of a program by the Interfraternity Council, he also spoke to fraternities and sororities on campus on subjects ranging from hazing to knowing and understanding their criminal rights.
Mr. Scranton has presented at National Legal Aid & Defender Association’s national conference on defending the rights of clients accused of soliciting, and presented at Ohio State’s Leadership Awards Banquet. He is certified by the Columbus Division of Police in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and by the Ohio Department of Public Safety in advanced detection, apprehension, and prosecution. He has handled appeals both in prosecuting and defending clients in the 10th District Court of Appeals. His bar admissions include the Northern and Southern Federal District Courts, the United States Supreme Court, and the state of Ohio. He is also a member of the Columbus Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and American Bar Association.
He has also been an advisor for several Buck-I-Serv trips that take a group of 10 or more Ohio State students for a week around the country to do community service work. He has helped with hurricane relief in New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi, Mississippi, building homes on Native American reservations in North Carolina, assisted at animal shelters in South Carolina, and worked with K-12 students at the public schools in Vinton County, Ohio.

In his spare time, Mr. Scranton enjoys spending time with his family and playing tennis.
